Can anybody offer any information on Francis Cartledge? The 1881 census (when he was 45) showed that he was married to Jane, living in Manchester and that they had the following children.
Clara aged 23, Sophia aged 16, Francis (my great grandfather) aged 14, Mary J aged 11, Isaac aged 9, Robert aged 7 and Arthur aged 5. There is a possiblity that there was also a daughter Louisa who at the time was living with Ernest and Jane Tanner.
I think it is possible that Francis married Jane Drinkwater in 1857 (at ManchesterCathedral) and that Jane was born around 1838. The census gives the birthplace for both of them as Manchester however I have information relating to the baptism of Francis Cartledge in Rochdale in January 1836, the parents were Isaac and Mary Cartledge. As Francis and Jane went on to call two of their children Isaac and Mary I think it is very possible that this is my Francis. I would love to hear from anyone who may be able to fill in the gaps and prove me either right or wrong. Has anyone got any of these two people in their tree?
I have found a record of a marriage between Ernest Tanner and Jane Cartledge so it is possible that Jane Cartledge was the sister of Francis. Does anybody have any information on the Tanner/Cartledge connection?
