Leo Joseph Dubuc Obit
ADRIAN — Leo Joseph Dubuc, age 83, of Adrian, passed away February 14. He was born July 26, 1924, in Detroit, Mich., of French-speaking parents. This was his first language but you wouldn’t have known it. He graduated from Mackenzie High School and married Gloria Jean Quesnell in 1946. She preceded him in death in 1985. He then married Bonnie Richard on June 9, 1990, in Manitou Beach; she survives. He lived for many years in Allen Park, Mich., then for many more in the Irish Hills, Adrian, and Lady Lake, Florida.
He was a proud WWII Veteran, originally as a communications expert in the 101st Airborne. But he actually served in the OSS (Office of Strategic Service) in intelligence gathering and special forces work all over Europe and Asia. He was a paratrooper and demolition expert and worked extensively with the French Underground in Nazi-occupied France. His war exploits and experiences are too numerous to list but are the stuff that the most amazing intelligence and special forces stories are made of that you read about and see in books, documentaries and movies. He received two Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star for bravery but was also decorated by many European governments for his work with their underground movements, sometimes receiving their highest possible military honors. He was a member of the VFW and various military organizations. He was a member of the Lenawee Country Club and the Father Sayler Knights of Columbus in Allen Park.
He is survived by his wife of 17 years, Bonnie (Richard); his brother, Donald; two sisters-in-law, Bea and Mae; his sons, Leland and Keith; and many loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Cheryl (Michael) Cunningham; his brothers, Robert and Roger; and his parents, Alice and Leonidas. He worked as an owner of a trucking business in the Detroit area for 17 years, then as an Insurance Adjustor for over 20 years. He was always a joker and friendly guy who was loved and enjoyed by everyone who knew him. He was an avid golfer till age 79.
