It's hard to answer that question, because the names of Jean-Marie Ducharme's parents are not known for sure, at least to me.
After years of research, based on my knowledge of those Ducharme living in that area in that period, I see 2 possibilities for Jean-Marie:
1) he could be the son of Paul Ducharme (a fur trader) and an Amerindian of the Menominee nation. Indeed, these 2 had a son with the name Jean-Marie, born in Wisconsin in 1796. I don't know what happened to him, but obviously he could be the one who maried Marie Roy and he could be the father of Cuthbert. Paul was French, but his son Jean-Marie was a Métis, as we say in French, or a mixed-blood.
2) he could be the son of Joseph-Laurent Ducharme, born April 11, 1758 in Michillimakinac, and baptized April 12 in St-Ignace of Michillimakinac. Joseph-Laurent died on Dec. 29, 1793, in Sault-St-Louis, near Montréal. However, no marriage known for him. Joseph-LAurent was French.
