Hi Charlotte, Thank you very much for your response. I apologize in advance, I am just full of questions.I haven't found many people researching this line. First, how are you related to this lot? Have you heard Nicholas may have been a moonshine runner and do you know if there is any validity to that? The information you provided helped to comfirm a few things.I just got some bad news about my Jesse Bird Dudley b 1835 TN (possibly Rhea Co.), died 1906 Lamar, Texas. I mailed away for Jesse Byrd's death certificate and all it tells me is his nativity is Irish.Back to the drawing board! Jesse Byrd is living with Samuel Dudley and Martha Sherrill in the 1850 census of Rhea, TN. There is also a boy Jesse Byrd's age living with Samuel in the 1840 Rhea, TN census. I just don't know how these people are related to Jesse Byrd. It would appear Martha may be too old to be his mother ( I think about 47 at time of birth) I also don't know where Samuel fits in with the rest of the Dudleys. Has a Samuel or Martha Sherrill come up anywhere in your Dudley research? Samuel was born about 1804 in Georgia and married in 1804 in Roane Co.,TN. The only children I am fairly certain are Samuel and Martha's are Calvin Sherrill Dudley and Claiborn J. Dudley
I don't find a census record for Samuel until 1830 in Bledsoe, TN. and there doesn't appear to be any other Dudley's around so that would indicate he moved there fairly recently. With this recent confirmation you gave me about William Reilly that his father is James A and grandfather is Nicholas gives me more reason to believe Samuel and Nicholas may have been brothers. I just don't see him listed on anyone's tree, although I do see holes in birthdates that Samuel would fit right in to (as a sibling of Nicholas). Do you know if William B Dudley is Nicholas' father? If so, what if anything do you know about him and where he is from and lived? I realize I am repeating a lot of these things from my previous email, I just don't want to make you look back to make sense of this one. Thank you again for your response.
