Margaret Jane Duffey Freeman - 1846-1930
I just found your post while searching for my gr gr grandma, who I believe to be Margaret Jane Duffey. Here’s my tree as I know it.I was always told since childhood that one of my grandmas was a full blooded Cherokee. This agrees with what you said.

marr Elijah L. GUNN on 3 Dec 1911, Elijah b 1 Oct 1893 in Dadeville, AL, d 29 June 1958 in Columbus, GA, bur Parkhill Cemetery next to Ella Mae Jones GUNN
Ella Mae Jones Gunn was my maternal grandmother, so Margaret Jane Duffey Freeman would have been my gr gr grandma.I visited Eagle Creek Cemetery in 1972 and was told that the Boulwares were in my family. As I stood in front of a Boulware grave, a lady walked up behind me and said, “Beware the Boulwares” and then walked away.I never learned what that was about.
The Tallapoosa Co, AL Vital Records, Marriages: Grooms d-h shows Henry Freeman married Margaret J. Duffey in 1858, pg 227.One of my Jones cousins was told that Henry Freeman married a very young girl aged 12-14 and that he left for the Civil War not too long after their marriage. This marriage record seems to jive with that family story. Are these my gr gr grandparents?
On the 1860 Tehopeka (Post Office) in Tallapoosa, AL census record,Henry F. Freeman, wife Jane (Margaret Jane), and son James (Bolware) Freeman live in the same house as Elizabeth Duffy, b about 1830.There’s no relationship listed. Is she Margaret Jane’s mother?Next door is the James Boulware household. He’s 61 and marr to Frances, aged 60.Could James Boulware be Margaret Jane’s father by Elizabeth Duffey?Margaret Jane Freeman did name her son James Bolware. My grandma Ella Mae Jones’ brother Frank had Bolware as his middle name, so I know the Bolwares/Boulwares were related to my family somehow.
On the 1870 Duffeys, Tallapoosa, AL census, my gr gr grandparents Henry and Margaret Freeman live next door to Fanny Boulware, aged 70, Frank, Bolware, aged, 20, and Polley Duffey, aged 49, all in the same household.Somehow the Duffeys, Bolwares(Boulwares), and Freemans were connected.
Do you have any parentage for Margaret Jane Duffey?I believe Elizabeth Duffey is her mother and I also believe she was the Cherokee my family talked about.
I’ve been working with several people on the Duffey/Boulware question and would appreciate any help.
