Allen:Thanks for the information, every little bit helps.I can see why Deignan would be pronounced as "Degnan", but I thought that pronouncing Duignan that way was stretching a point even though I pronounced it that way for most of my life.In 1960, after becoming tired of explaining how I get DEGNAN out of DUIGNAN, I changed the prounciation to DOOIGNAN. My parents (both from Dublin) pronounced it "DEGNAN" so I suspected that it was a common pronounciation over there.Thanks again.
