My great grandmother, Franceska Dumoulin, married Henry C. Gailliot. I would like to know genealogy of her family. The following is information I have on her birth date/place: BIRTH, BIRTH PLACE, PARENTS: Birth certificate (Auszug aus dem Verzeichniss) dated 13 Oct 1889:Francoise Dumoulin, born 7 pm, 5 March 1871, daughter of Joseph Dumoulin, born Reschvoog, age 30, laborer, and Marie Anne, born Reschwoog, age 30, housekeeper. Witnesses: Bous Louis, age 36, laborer, residing at Reschwoog, Bas Rhin; and Lorentz Adam, age 38, laborer, residing at Reschwoog, Bas Rhin. The text of the Franceska Dumoulin's birth certificate is in French, but overprinted in German. Prussia (Germany) invaded and annexed the provinces of Alsace and Lorraine in 1871.Thus, Francoise was raised in a region that was admininstered by the Germans from the very year that she was born. The fact that she spoke, read and wrote in German suggests that she was schooled in the German language and culture. As matriarch and grandmother of the Gailliot family, she was called "Grossmom Franceska", and Franceska is the name inscribed on her tombstone.
NOTE: Reschwoog also spelled Roeschwoog
NOTE: The Province of Alsace is divided into Haute Rhin and Bas Rhin, which essentially means up-river and down-river on the Rhine. I believe the area where Francoise was born is near Strasbourg, Bas Rhin.
