Carolyn, I just finished viewing a microfilm on the "Republic of Texas Claims". I found two documents regarding Alexander Dunlavy's service with the Federal Army of Texas. Both are written by John York, Capt. of Brazos Gard. Alex served in this unit from Nov. 3, 1835 - Jan. 1836. He participated in the Storming of Bexar, Dec. 5-10, 1836. During hisservice with theFederal Army of Texas, he lost a black horse. Documents say that theFederal Army will reimburse him for $50.00 to replace the horse!
My husband is a descendant ofRosannah Dunlevy (sister to Alexander Dunlevy) Rosannah married John D. McLeod on April 9, 1839. John D. McLeod, also participated in the Storming of Bexar, and served as Secretery of the Senate from Nov. 1838-Feb. 1841. John and Rosannah's children lived with their Uncle Alex Dunlevy when they were orphaned July 8, 1857.
