------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This William being the father of your William and grandfather of Eleasor
This Williams father was named JOhn Durdino (No Book or Page Number Furnished by Wayne County Register of Deeds) Orignial land sold to Samuel Barnes
KNOW ALL MEN BY THESE PRESENTS, that I, WILLIAM DURDINO of County of Wayne & State of No. Carolina, do bargain & Sell a tract of land lying on North side of the Grate (Great) Swamp To JOHN BARNES for fifty Pounds, Beginning on Boakonce(?) branch dam then along a line towards another Course to a pine on a branch, then down the Said Branch to a gum in thick (thicket?) on the Grate (Great) Swamp, thence up along ____ a walnut tree to EPHRYAM BASSES (EPHRIAM BASS'S)line, thence with sd. BASSES (BASS'S) line to the beginning, Containing fifty acres of Land be the same more or less, Containing the plantation whereon JOSIAH ELLIS is now living,[Note by AMD: Josiah Ellis was husband of PENNY DURDINO ELLIS; so this means William was selling his daughter's home and that of her husband, Josiah Ellis, to JOHN BARNES.This seems unlikely to have happened.] TO HAVE AND TO HOLD the tract of land to him, the said JOHN BARNES, his heirs, assigns &c., from the Lawfull Claims of any person or persons. IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have set my hand & affixed Seal this 7th day of Feb'y, 1804. WILLIAM (His X Mark) DURDINO (Seal) Signed, Sealed & delivered in presents (presence) of us: JACOB FULGHUM WILLIAM (His X Mark) BALLANCE May Term 1812 -------------------- NOTE BY AMD: (Alta Mitchem Durden of SC) firstname.lastname@example.org I AM SUSPICIOUS OF THIS DEED BECAUSE, ALTHOUGH IT PURPORTS TO HAVE BEEN SIGNED BY WILLIAM DURDINO ON FEBRUARY 7, 1804,IT WAS NOT RECORDED UNTIL WELL AFTER THE ESTATE OF WILLIAM DURDINO HAD BEEN SETTLED BY JOHN BARNES, THE ADMINISTRATOR OF WILLIAM'S ESTATE, JOHN BARNES BEING THE RECIPIENT OF THIS FIFTY ACRES OF LAND NEARLY EIGHT YEARS AFTER THIS DEED WAS SUPPOSEDLY SIGNED BY WILLIAM DURDINO.WHY WOULD JOHN BARNES HAVE WITHHELD THIS DEED FOR EIGHT YEARS?
IT WOULD BE INTERESTING TO SEE IF JOHN BARNES REPORTED TO THE COURT WILLIAM DURDINO'S RECEIPT OF FIFTY POUNDS AS PAYMENT FOR THESE FIFTY ACRES, OR IF JOHN BARNES REPORTED TO THE COURT THAT HE (ADMINISTRATOR BARNES) STILL OWED FIFTY POUNDS TO WILLIAM DURDINO WHEN WILLIAM DIED LATER IN THE SAME YEAR OF 1804.I MUST WRITE OR CALL THE COURT FOR MORE ESTATE RECORDS.WE HAVE NO RECEIPTS FOR MONEY COLLECTED OR SUMS OWED TO OR BY WILLIAM DURDINO.IT IS DIFFICULT TO ACCEPT THAT WILLIAM WOULD HAVE SOLD HIS DAUGHTER'S HOME OUT FROM UNDER HER AND HER HUSBAND!
Tomorrow I will send you a paper written by a cousin called Durdin Proof and Evidence a well documented acct of our Durdino/Durdin family from NC to GA and why we believe they come to GA via NC
