My Mother actually corresponded with Henry Durham back in the 1950's. She had been doing genealogy since WWII. I do not know if you have any of my Mother's letters, but here is what I know about Charles Durham: His father was Thomas Daniel Durham born around 1746 in North Farnham, Virginia. Thomas Daniel was the son of John Durham and Sarah Hightower. The Durham family migrated from Bermuda to Virgina and from there Charles, Daniel and others of the family migrated to Orange NC near Fairview, which is sixteen miles from Hillsborough on the road to Chatham Courthouse.Charles may be located in colonial records witnessing marriages of mixed breed families in Orange NC, a matter which was rather revolutionary for the colonial time period. I descend from Charles Durham through his daughter Lucy. Charles was first married to Mary Smith, the daughter of Christopher "Kit" Smith. A child was born to them in 1789, but I do not know if it was male or female or what happened to it. Lucy was born in 1793 and thereafter her mother died. Charles then married Mary Fortune in March of 1794. Mary Fortune was the daughter of Joseph Fortune and Mary Reynolds. Lucy Durham, the oldest known daughter of Charles Durham, married Jenothan Joel Morton in Pendleton, SC. They cared for Charles Durham after he went blind, and did not migrate to Alabama with the other Morton's until after he died. Lucy Durham Morton was known as "Little Granny" and barely stood 4 ft 5 inches tall. She is buried in Conn Cemetary in Gallant, Etowah County, Alabama in an unmarked grave adjacent to her daughter Elizabeth Morton Thomas.
