Hi Darrell, It is this Durham Family that I feel most strongly as my ancestors. They are listed all around the area where my Great great grandfather - William H. Durham, was living (Surry County, NC - in 1850/1860). I know that Austin Durham was a son of William Durham and Susannah Hatcher.I have the Deed of 1816 (Stokes County, NC) showing Elizabeth Shelton Durham, widow of Gregory Durham selling 487 acres of land to Henry Christian. On this deed are listed the children of Gregory and Elizabeth Durham, along with many of the Husbands of the daughters. Here is part of this deed:
This indenture made this sixth day of December and in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixteen, between Elizabeth Durham, widow of Gregory Durham, Des? (Deceased), William Durham, Archibald Durham, James Durham, George Durham, James Shelton and his wife Susanna, daughter of the said Gregory Durham, Salley Durham, William Yates and Patty his wife, daughter of the said Gregory Durham, Robinson Vaughan and his wife Elizabeth, daughter of the said Gregory Durham, and Cornelius Hart his wife Polley, daughter and Rebecca Durham of the said Gregory Durham, all of the County of Stokes and State of North Carolina of the one part, and Henry Christian now of the same County and State of the other part.......
My ancestor - William H. Durham is most listed near two other Durham families in 1850 - Henry Durham (Paulina Chandler), and Nancy Durham (may never have married), who is listed with an elderly lady - Sally Durham.I don't know if this is a "Sarah Sally Durham" who was married to one of the sons of Gregory Durham, or if Sarah Sally Durham is acutually a daughter and was never married.Sarah Sally Durham appears to be living with Henry Durham in the 1830 - Patrick County, VA, and is listed separate, near Henry Durham in the 1840 - Patrick Co., VA.This is where I am with this family.
Any help would be appreciated. Byron K. Durham www.durhamheritage.com Facebook - Durham Family Group
