Thomas Durling b. about 1830?? Wilmot Nova Scotia?
This is a note sent to me from keith. If you can help please let me know.
Best to you ....................Bill
Hi Bill,
Nice to hear from someone down home. I am from Kingston. I now live in
Pontypool, Ont.
It is a fortunate surprize for me to hear from a Durling. As you can see on
my webpage that my Durling line is sorely lacking. I have been told during
a chance meeting with a woman at the Old Courthouse in Kentville last year,
that Thomas Durling is the son of either Zebulon or Daniel Durland.
Calnek, in his History of the County of Annapolis lists only the first
2 generations of the descendants of Daniel & Sarah(DeMotte) Durland. Thomas
Durling would have been born in the 3rd generation, probably circa
1835-1840, possibly as early as circa 1825. He would have been settled in
the eastern Wilmont or western Alysford area and possibly been born there.
The other possible place of his birth would be in the
Lawerencetown-Granville area.
Do you have any possible information on this Thomas Durling. His
daughter, Hannah, married Avard Banks. Avard and Hannah lived south of
Kingston in the Harmony district. My mother, Thelma Banks was born on the
same land that they farmed.
In Planters & Pioneers by Ester Clark-Wright, there is no mention of
either Durland or Darling. Just two Darlings who settled on the South Shore
and both seemed to have left there for New Brunswick by the 1770's.
Thanks for the comments about my site, I been working on notes and
sources for the early Planter families that settled in the Granville and
Wilmont areas.Bye for now, Keith
