My children and in-laws descend from Gideon Dutcher/Ducher, so I have attempted a little research into this line.
In THE SETTLERS OF BEEKMAN PATENT, Vol.IV, Frank J. Doherty reported that Gideon Dutcher (David4, Dirck3, Jan2, Willem1) was born about 1773.He married Sarah Manchester who was born on November 10, 1773.He was enumerated in the 1800 census of Pawling, a town in New York. "He is supposed to have died ca. 1812 in Troy, New York, and she August 31, 1859, at Kaneviller, Delaware."
Doherty listed these children:
Eunice, born August 20, 1794, died November 12,1884
Calivin Lewis, born 1795 at Dover, married Elizabeth Bennet in 1819 at Chatham, New York
Cornelius, born July 13, 1796 at Dover, married Unknown Ailing [You report the name Cornelia.]
Clinton, born 1799 at Dover, married Lydia Unknown.Clinton died on June 1859 in Columbia County, New York.
Jacob, born December 9, 1801, died 1854 at Sand Lake
Polly, born 1804 at Dover, married Daniel Hunt
Squire, born, September 1806
Sally Ann, born July 12, 1808, married Lymon Foster
Stephen, born 1810, married Mary Hunt
Jane, born October 1812 at Chatham in Columbia County, New York, married John Wenchen
Obviously, there is a problem with Cornelius' gender. Doherty's work is vast and some details are possibly wrong. Can you document your Cornelius further?
During the 1880 census of Kaneville in Kane, Illinois, Daniel Hunt, 76, a retired farmer, born in New York of parents born in New York, was married to Polly, 76, likewise born in New York of parents born in the same state (p. 415B in the Latter Day Saints version). They lived next door to S. D. Hunt, 39, born in New York of parents also born there, and his wife Lydia, born in Massachusetts.S. D. and Lydiahad these daughters: Mertie M., 14; Carrie A., 1; and Alice, 1, all born in Illinois. There were only seven Hunts in Kaneville, and I suppose that S. D. was son to Daniel.
I would be very happy to learn more about Jane Manchester who married Winchen. She is my children's third great-grandmother, and she is causing me many research problems.I think that she was Jane or Janet or Jannetje Manchester Dutcher. My mother-in-law told me her name was Janet, pronounced oddly.I suspect that the couple anglicised Wincehn's last name to Winchester: Winchen + Manchester. The Winchens/Winchesters were the parents of Sarah Mariah Winchester, born about 1847 in New York and died probably in Champaign County, Illinois.
I would be very grateful for corrections or confirmation of my research. Also do you have any information about Sarah Manchester?Names of her parents?
