I am a Williams researcher and I am trying to confirm information about Mary Ann DUTY, daughter of Elijah Teague DUTY and Elizabeth REEDER.
Elijah's brother Minton DUTY married Martha Ann WILLIAMS, daughter of Mathew WILLIAMS and Elizabeth LUTHER. They married on 02 Jan 1876 in either Gallatin Co., IL or Posey Co., IN (the family was moving around during that time and I have not confirmed the place). Minton DUTY and Martha Ann WILLIAMS had one child: Elizabeth Grace DUTY, known as Grace DUTY (born: 13 Nov 1878 in IL; married: 16 Jun 1896 in ? IL; spouse: Leander MILLS; one son: Fieldon Glenn MILLS) Minton and Martha lived in Gallatin and White Co.'s IL and inherited the old Cottonwood graveyard where Minton is buried. Martha is listed on his stone but was not buried there as she lived into her 90's and moved away. Fieldon Glenn MILLS was known as Glenn MILLS and married twice and had children. I have more details if you are interested.
I also have photos of Minton and Martha, Grace and Glenn.
Now Martha's brother George Wesley WLLIAMS married in Gallatin Co., IL to Mary Ann DUTY on 02 Nov 1881. At first I thought that Mary Ann, who was known by Ann, was a younger sister of Minton, but that did not prove to be true. Recently I found a note saying she might have been a cousin, but I think she was actually a niece of Minton's and that the Mary who is the oldest daughter of Elijah is also the "Ann" who married Charles Wesley WILLIAMS. She was in Gallatin Co., IL at the proper time and of the proper age. She and George Wesley WILLIAMS had two children: Elsie May WILLIAMS who married William COX and Clarence Edgar WILLIAMS.
In 1880 her father and mother were divorced and her mother was living with her grandfather Job REEDER and the children, including Mary. It looks like Mary Ann got married at age 16.
In about 1888/9 the WILLIAMS moved to Dayton, WA. The story goes that Ann was there earlier with George as her father had homesteaded land there and they joined him. When she got tired of homesteading with her father and husband in Washington, she left, and at least Clarence was also left with his father. I have yet to check for Elsie's whereabouts, but she communicated with the rest of the family in her adult years. Mary Ann returned to marry an "old boyfriend" according to the story I have. Eventually, Charles married again and had one more son. I have photos of Charles and Ann (Mary Ann DUTY), Charles and the children, Charles and his second wife and Charles and his two adult sons.
If you can help me confirm this story I would very much appreciate it.
