Hi Kerri: Just recently, I was reading about the Dwane name anfd it's origins/variations. O Dubain (with an accent on the "a") is the origin of the name. It was often anglicized in the U.S. and Canada to Dewan or DeWan, however the variations Devane, Duane, Divane, Downes as well as Dwane are still fairly common in both Ireland and here. My Dwane lineage is through my GGG who emigrated here from Ireland (although I haven't found out where) in 1857 with his wife and children. He died in passage and is buried in Montreal, where my GG, also John Dwane thrived in the shoe business with his brother Thomas. Other siblings were: Honorah, Margaret, Mary, Thomas, Michael, and Timothy. Part of the reason I haven't been able to trace John Sr. back to Ireland is the variation in names. The family may have been known as any of the above.
