Frank Dycus--Country and Western Songwriter
There was an earlier posting concerning Frank Dycus on this message board. Here is a blub from my Final Edition Dycus/Dicus book:
3.6 Frank Dycus—Country and Western Songwriter
In 1995, Frank Dycus of Nashville was the Country and Western Songwriter of the Year.Frank’s first top-10 hit was a 1974 Jerry Lee Lewis single “He Can’t Fill My Shoes.”He then hit it big with three songs he co-wrote for George Strait, “Unwound” and “Down and Out” in 1981 and “Marina Del Rey” in 1982. He had at least eight songs recorded by Strait.Frank wrote, “I Don’t Need Your Rockin’ Chair” in 1992 which was a hit for George Jones. His 1995 song, “Gonna Get a Life” sung by Mark Chesnutt was Number 1 on the charts. He had songs recorded by Johnny Bush, Red Sovine, Johnny Paycheck, Joe Sun, Dolly Parton, Ronny Robbins, The Rovers, Gary Stewart and many others.
I met Frank when he was stationed at Fairchild Air Force Base in Spokane, Washington.Frank was about 18 at the time, and I was home at Christmas Break from Arizona State University and about 22, so it was around 1958.Frank visited my parents several times, and was hoping they might help him figure out his ancestry.Frank was born in the Paducah, Kentucky area, and my parents were raised in Lyon County, Kentucky about 20 miles to the east of Paducah; so there was a potential connection.
Apparently, Frank never really figured out his ancestral connections. His daughter, Sheila Dycus, made a post on the Dycus Message Board asking for help on tracing Frank’s ancestry.Marion Franklin Dycus was born 5 Dec 1939 in Hardmoney, Kentucky, near Paducah (Mc Cracken County).Unfortunately, Frank passed away on 23 November 2012 at the age of 72.
I have recently traced Frank’s ancestral path, and discovered he is my third cousin! Here is his recorded matchup to the Michael Watson Dycus genetic ancestral line:
