I purchased in Jacksonville, OR, the subject undated RPPC (Real Photo Postcard) (not postally used) depicting a middle-aged woman and a boy, identified on the back:
"McHaley and Son South Dakota
Tom Dawkins' wife & son"
Someone familiar with the Dawkins family pointed out to me that the name McHaley is evidently an error and it should read Mahala.
These individuals appear in Public Member Trees posted on ancestry.com.Mahala Ann Dye, born Feb 1862 in Wood Co., VA, died 23 Mar 1945 in Rapid City, Pennington Co., SD, was the daughter of a farmer, Alfred Lewis Dye (1836-1909), and Sarah Berry (1837-1919).She is listed in the 1870 Census data for Slate Township, Wood Co., WV; the 1880 Census data for Slate, Wood Co., WV; the 1900 Census data for Stanton Precinct, Leigh, Colfax Co., NE; the 1910 Census data for Township 1, Pennington Co., SD; the 1920 Census data for Hammerville Precinct, Pennington Co., SD; and the 1930 Census data for Rapid City (resided on East Main), Pennington Co., SD.On 14 Apr 1881, in Wood Co., WV, Mahala married Thomas Arthur Dawkins (1861-1939).The couple had 9 or 10 children. The boy in the photo is probably either Bion Arthur Dawkins (1896-1967) or Silas Raymond Dawkins (1902-1980).
