HiI am hoping that Patricia Martonis is still a member of genforum and still on the same e.mail address.
You very kindly gave me the baptisms of Silvanus Dyke and Elizabeth Dyke at Milborne Port in 1825 and 1826.You said it was difficult to read the writing but thought the father's name was William and the mother's Maria.#
I was unable to find William or his marriage to Maria, but knew he had to have died early.
Due to a question from another family member, I have gone back to this family after a gap of 2 years and I am now wondering if as the writing was so bad, the father's name could also have been Silvanus.
If you will bear with me, my reasoning for this is that Elizabeth and her brother Silvanus were living with the grandparents in 1841 and Elizabeth was still there in 1851.So their father obviously died early. The Grandparents George and Tabitha had a son Sylvanus (with a Y) who died in 1826, this Sylvanus was married to Maria Parsons.Knowing the poor writing in the early 19th century, I have scribbled Silvanus and William down on a piece of paper and apart from the capital it looks very similar in outline.
Would it be possible for you to tell me where you actually found the information, even if I cannot look, I am hopeful one of my relatives would be able to.
