Joseph Fannin b. ca, 1802 in Va. married Elizabeth Kitchen in 1822 in Lawrence Co., Ky. He is found in the 1850 Census of Lawrence Co.,Ky. with no wife. Russell Co., Va. records tie this Joseph (who moved to Carter Co., Ky.) to an unnamed daughter of Thomas Easterling of Russell Co., Va.
A recently discovered Ky. Death Certificate names Sarah A. Prater as the daughter of Joseph Fannin & Rachel Easterling.
We know from the 1850 Lawrence Co., Ky. census that Joseph Fannin was born in Va. ca 1802 and lived in Lawrence Co., Ky. and that he had a daughter named Sarah born ca.1839 according to that same census.
The death certificate is: Certificate #27182 Bureau of Vital Statistics for Commonwealth of Kentucky for Sarah A. Prater.
It seems Sarah Fannin had married and divorced a man named Prater.
She is found in the 1910 Census for Lawrence Co., Ohio, Upper Township, Ironton, Ohio House # 346 94 100, where she worked as a Laundress for the John Sword family. She was listed as age 70 and divorced, Born Ky.
In the 1920 Federal Census of Boyd Co., Ky. she is found in the household of Mason (Masin) & Lucinda Branham living in Catlettsburg, Boyd Co., Ky. Household #245 (Be sure to notice the members of this household are listed on two pages & Sarah is found on the latter page). She had been divorced.
Her death certificate shows that she was born Sept. 13, 1840 and died in Ashland,Ky. on Nov. 21, 1923, age 83. It lists her as a widow.
Her father is listed as Joseph Fannin b. Ky Her mother is listed as Rachel Easterling b. Ky. She was buried in Woodland Cemetery, Ironton, Ohio The informant was Mrs. M. Branham of Ashland, Ky.
Now we know for a fact that Joseph Fannin was married to Thomas Easterling's daughter and that her name was Rachel. That's probably where Rachel Emeline Fannin Burton got her name. I believe Rachel Emeline Fannin Burton, wife of Andrew Jackson Burton, was a daughter of Joseph Fannin.
The certificate also shows us that Elizabeth Kitchen was Joseph's first wife & Rachel Easterling was the second.
I still believe Bryant Fannin (who m. Louisa Clay) was a son of Joseph Fannin. Now we know because of his birth year (1825) that his mother would have been Elizabeth Kitchen, since Joseph couldn't have married Rachel before he did Elizabeth and still have a child named Sarah born in 1840.
