I am beginning to think that Jacob Henry Spangle and David Davies Eby were both beamed down by aliens from some other planet.Frustrating, isn't it?Well, we at least seem to have sufficient DNA data to at least verify in a general way family connections.
Awhile ago I bought the latest Eby family history book.In it I note also just one mention of a David Aebi in Switzerland or Germany, 19 March 1741, listed as David Aby of Seeberg appearing as a witness at the baptism of a child named David--parents of child listed as Bano Widner and his wife at the parish of Heimiswil, BE, CH.No other record seems to exist for him there and no immigration record located either for over here.So who this David is remains unknown.Just one more angle to wonder about. That citation is on page 314 of Newman's "The Aebi-Eby Families of Switzerland, Germany and North America 1550-1850".
Given the repetition of the story that David Davies was from Virginia, and the lack of better verification from Washington Co., PA, I wouldn't rule out that he may have been in some other part of Virginia prior to making the move to Stark County. How frustrating that no branch of the David Davies family seems to have any more information.Even tracking down just who his wife was seems difficult and not clear. Some sources I have found try to link him to a Catherine Kurtz who is shown elsewhere as married to a different man.
I am still assuming this Eby family came through Washington County, PA but wonder how long they were there or whether it was a short term stopping off place on their way to Stark County.
As you can see, I am willing to consider any "wild goose chase" that presents itself.Once in awhile one actually pays off.
