According to the Abstracts of North Carolina Wills of Beaufort- 1760-1800- which by the way was taken from Old Bath Co- and you can pull this up on the internet- at www.ncroots.com " James Echols- who was on the 1764 Tax list, and whose will was abstracted 1776- with wife Martha,George,William, and five other children not named???? Now I have not looked up this James to see if his other children were named elsewhere, so you might try there- Joses Echols, Jr. (or is this Joseph? - will abstracted 1792- mentions William and Richard, who must have been his brothers- so apparently he died unmarried and without children-The Indians posed a big problem in that area back then- and perhaps he died fighting them? George Echols-will abstracted 1797- mentions wife ? not named, and Jamesand David- probably his children. Old John - will was abstracted in 1750, so he has to be the patriarch- But on this list was Joseph Wise,1764 who may have been the ance3stor to the Wise Family who migrated to Georgia and settled in Butts Co. and are in the Land Lotteries there. Also was Timothy Allen -1759- who was of the Allens who intermarried with my Stamps family, and Reuben Eason 1780- of the Easons also intermarried into my Stamps Family- My connection to the Echols in the Stamps family is this: .
