Joseph Ekhart
I am trying to find out information on Joseph Ekhart, son of Elisabeth Reiter Ekhart and Frank Ekhart. This family was from Eberau, Gussing, Burgenland, Austria before coming to USA. Apparently Joseph could not find work in NY so he packed up and went back to Germany about 1932. From Germany he could get a visa to the USSR and stayed about a one year. Then he came back to pack up his wife, Stephanie to go back to the USSR. It seems the Soviets had confiscated his passport and he was employed somewhere in the Ural Mountains, building factories that stood vacant. He was drafted into the Russo-Finnish war and survived. They finally had a daughter named Olga. Seems he lost faith in communism and shortly after WW2 he and his wife were never heard from again. I think they were murdered by Josef Stalin's police perhaps as they were trying to flee at the border. Can anyone tell me how to go about trying to find any USSR records of his military activities and/or death? Would there be any such records of his living there? Who / where can I search or request this type of information. Thank you so very much to anyone who ca help
