Jean, regarding "proof" about William Eddings !, who died 1732 in Spotsylvania Co., Va., I suspect you will never find it. However, I will give you a little info about this family that I received over 30 years ago from other researchers.
First of all , his name wasnot Eddings, but more likely Eddins. Many of his descendents went by the name Eddins. Many years ago I was told that there was a book written by Malcolm Hooker, circa 1979, that is "loosely written bound in a vertical file in the Lebanon ,Tn. library."Also, supposedly there is a similar book in the Nashville, Tn. library, written by a son of Mary Irene Eddins and Percy Hopps. Mary Irene was born 1896 and was a descendent of Benjamin Eddins (b. 1735), who was a grandson of William Eddins !. The info in these books was info handed down from generation to generation and may not be completely true. Based on known birth dates of Benjamin and some of his siblings, I have estimated William Eddins 1 was born circa 1662.
Over 30 years ago I originated the suffix "1" after William so I could determine who was the father, the son, grandson, etc. They were all named William. Bob Eddings
