Looking for any information on Samuel Edens, born around 1860 in Elizabethton, Carter Co. TN.He was married to Mary Fuller and I can pretty well establish his children, but establishing his father is much more difficult.
I know his mother was an Elizabeth Berry Edens Jones.I believe here maiden name was Berry, then she married James Edens, Jr, former pastor at Sinking Creek Baptist church, in 1950.Census information shows the following: 1850 she is listed as married within the year to James Edens, he age 72, she age 24, and William G B Eadon and Mary Gorley in the home. 1860, she is head of house, with Martha (9) Mary (8) and Millard (2) in the home. 1870, she is also alone, with Millard (12), Samuel (9) and Matilda (8).Also David Moody is in the house (74) Perhaps father of her 2nd husband who may have died in the war and fathered the children born after 1855?. Why would they have taken the name "Edens"?Were they born out of wedlock?Did some other Edens marry her after James died? 1880, she is married to Ambrose Jones, with Samuel (18) and Matilda (18) listed as step-son and step-daughter.
Marriage records indicate Elizabeth married James Edens in 1850 and Ambrose Jones in 1871.
I have found that the parents of Elizabeth had a farm next to James' farm, but know nothing else of the situation.Any information anyone has would be much appreciated.
Samuel is my great-great-great grandfather on my mother's side.
