My paternal GGM was Catherine H. Edington, born June 1884 in Fairfield Co, OH; she was the daughter of Mary A. Hamilton (said to be of Fairfield Co, OH) and Jacob Edington (b.abt.1857 in OH); his parents were: Issac Edington (b. abt.1834 in OH died: bfr. 1900) and Elisabeth ___________ (b.abt. 1833 in OH) They married bfr. 1857) in OHIO?. Mary A. Hamilton and Jacob had a son also, his name was Idaho Eddington, b. May 27,1887 in Walnut Twp., Fairfield Co.,OH. I believe that Mary and Jacob lived near his parents, if not with them during their marriage; I'm hindered by the fact the 1890 Census was destroyed, so I can not check to see if they were living at that time or where, exactly...I DO know that in 1900 my GM Catherine is listed as living with the widowed Elizabeth Eddington (her grandmother) and I can not find a record of her parents or her baby brother as being alive at that time.
My GM Catherine(Eddington)Berry stated she had no memories of ever having lived with her parents; she was raised near Buckeye Lake in Ohio by Cousins of her father...they were older and had raised their children and weren't "thrilled" about raising someone else's child, but they were the only living kin of her father's (or at least the closest) so did their best by her. She could not recall anyone talking to her about her family, only to say they died "at an early age", she never knew if it was in an accident(s), or illness.
I was able to obtain a copy of my GM Catherine's wedding license from Fairfield Co, OH where she married my GF William E. Berry on Nov. 16, 1901; both were listed as residents of Millersport, Fairfield Co., OH. I also received a copy of the entry in the Birth records ledger of Fairfield Co, OH that listed Idaho Eddinton, born of Mary A. Hamilton and Jacob Eddington, May 27, 1887; reporter of the birth was his mother Mary Hamilton...so I know she did not die in childbirth. I have not been able to obtain a marriage license for Mary and Jacob, nor a birth entry for my GM Catherine.
Do ANY of the above persons' names appear in the genealogy of someone's Edington/Eddington family? Please contact me...I'm trying to solve this "mystery of our family history". Please email me directly at email@example.com. Thank you for ANY suggestions, information, you might be able to give me.
Note: Issac Edington was a Laborer by occupation, born in OH; did not know who his parents were, or at least not where they were born (as evidenced by 1880 Census- Fairfield Co., Walnut Twp., OH, Dist. 207) Jacob was also listed as a Laborer by occupation in the same census; not found again, must have died bfr 1900. Elisabeth ___________ in the 1880 Census is shown as 47yrs (abt. 1833 birth) born in OH, F: MD, M:PABUT in the 1900 Census Fairfield Co, Walnut Twp. Elizabeth Eddington is shown as 62 yrs. (abt 1828)birth date given as Nov., 1837 in OH, F: MD, M:MD. This is 20 yrs after the 1880 Census, but she is only 15 yrs older...must have been intended to show her 1880 age as 42, rather than 47.
