Family Group Sheet for James & Margaret Edmiston, Burke/NC
Inasmuch as there is a lot of misinformation floating around the Internet about this family, I would like to submit a family group sheet for them that is based on research rather than tree copying and guessing.
Father: James Edmiston, b. abt 1740, location unknown, most likely Cecil Co., MD.
Mother:Margaret Ewing, b. abt 1743, Cecil Co., MD, d/o Joshua and Jane (Patton) Ewing of Cecil Co., MD. Proof: Ewing Family Journal, Vol 15, No. 4, Nov. 2009, page 1. D. 1807 in Iredell Co., NC (will and probate 1807). Names co-executors son Samuel and nephew Adlai Ewing.
Marriage: About 1765 in probably Mecklenburg Co., NC. 1765 marriages for Mecklenburg are NOT extant. Marriage no doubt took place in Davidson's Creek settlement of NC, just south of Mecklenburg-Rowan (now Iredell) county line.
Margaret's little sister Anne Ewing married 1767 in Davidson's Creek settlement just north of county line and recorded in Rowan marriage book. The family moved to newly-created Burke Co. in 1778.

This family group sheet was produced from research done over an 18-year span by this descendant/researcher.If there is any documented evidence that refines or refutes any material presented here, the author would very much appreciate hearing from you. There are a number of trees in Rooptsweb's WorldConnect and Ancestry.com which have conflicting information, and represent uncontrolled tree-copying.But none of these presents any evidence or proof. I solicit emails from anyone interested in this family.Any birth dates for the children which conflict with above dates are absolutely erroneous. Also any references to Burke Co. for events prior to 1778 are bogus, because Burke wasn't created until 1778. Some even have James, Sr. being born in Burke Co. in 1740; not only did Burke not exist in 1740 but there were virtually no whites/settlers in the Catawba River valley in 1740.
