John was under the guardianship of his older brother Upton, as were his sisblings Nancy, Tabitha, Samuel and Thomas Edmundson as ordered by the court in 1797.Mary Edmondson,John’s mother, died in 1810. Thomas and Samuel Edmundson who married Nancy Jane Jones moved to Montgomery County, TN.John’s older siblings were: Constance who married Capt. Christopher Robinson; Upton, name of wife not known; Susannah who married Benjamin Orgain; Benjamin who married Martha Tomlinson; Mary Dunn who married John Blackwell.His sister Elizabeth, a year younger, married in 1796 Daniel Robertson and required no guardian.Nancy married James Hinton; Tabitha married James Gunn.
Sally Snead Edmundson died Dec. 20, 1834, in Virginia.John and his two unmarried sons and unmarried daughter Virginia moved to Missouri.

1861. James Edmonston, Jr., a native of Indiana, moved here from Scotland County, Missouri.His father was James A. Edmonston, b. October, 1786, in NC, who had moved to Kentucky for four years and then to Indiana where his fourth son was born.See the 1860 Census of Scotland County.He and his sister Hannah were in Gentry County, Missouri, in 1854, as stated in a letter written by his father at that time.James, Sr., died Feb. 5, 1875, at the home of his son Archibald in Adams County, Illinois.
He and his wife lived in Clark County until 1887 when they visited their daughter,Mrs. Thomas Gossage (Mary Edmonston) in Brooklyn Township, Illinois.The Rushville Times, December, 1887, described his death in the home of old friends, the Samuel Dark family, probably of a heart attack in his sleep.He died Dec. 11, 1887, and was buried in a Blackburn Cemetery nearby.
He and his wife, Sarah Waymick Edmonston, had six children.
May 23, 1868.Jesse Edmonston, youngest son of James and Sarah Edmonston,married Mary Toops, the daughter of Henry and Nancy Combs Toops.Mary was born June 9, 1852, near Louisville, Kentucky.Jesse was bornAugust 16, 1851, in McDonough County, Illinois, where his family remained until 1855 when they moved to Missouri, first to Gentry County and two years later to Scotland County. Jesse attended schools in Clark County.He engaged in farming until 1882 when he bought an interest in the general store in Chambersburg owned by his brother.After a few months he moved to Athens to operate a grocery under the name Edmonston and Fincher, then moved back to Chambersburg in 1884 to a partnership with J.M. Toops in Edmonston and Toops.He also was postmaster at Chambersburg.He and his wife had three children:

John Overton Edmondson, born August 20, 1847, in Williamson County, TN, to which the family moved briefly before returning to Missouri.He married Rhoda Drake, Oct. 15, 1872, at the Baptist Church, Henry County, Missouri.He had a dry goods store in Calhoun for many years but in 1900 was a deputy sheriff in Kansas City where he was living in 1916.They had two known children: Walter Edmondson, b. in September, 1873, and in Calhoun in 1900 (Census).He married Jennie.Virginia (Jinnie) Edmondson, was born about 1876, wasunmarried in 1900.No marriage record in Henry County.Might have moved to Kansas City.
4. Mary Virginia Edmondson was born Jan. 22, 1850, and died Sept. 23, 1850.
5. Tabitha Jane Edmondson was born Sept. 5, 1851, and married James V. Hahn in 1869. He was a blacksmith in Calhoun, lived there in 1870, was a grain and cattle dealer in Calhoun in 1880, and in Vernon County, MO, as a blacksmith in 1900.Several children.
6. Martha Edmondson, born about 1854.Married in Henry County, Edd Majors, May 30, 1881.They moved to Schell City, Vernon County.He was arrested for robbery.Their first child was born dead and the marriage broke up.
7. Lucinda Edmondson (Lulu) was born about 1858 and married Samuel C. Woods in Henry County, Sept. 29, 1880. No further information.
8. Mary Catherine Edmondson (Kate), was born about 1862.No marriage record.Might have died in childhood.
9. Henry Edmondson, b. after his father’s death, July 18, 1864.No further information on him after the 1880 Census.
William Edwin Edmondson, son of John and Sally Snead Edmondson, was born Jan. 22, 1817, in Lunenberg County, Virginia, moved to Benton County in 1839 and to Henry County a few years later. He married Unity Frances Deupree, who was born May 13, 1828, and died June 5, 1871, in Henry County, sick one day.He was living in 1881. Their children:
