According to wills, Estate Sales, deeds, census, etc, Alfred Alson Edney b-1794 Davidson Co and d- bef. March 3, 1849 Dyer Co, TN was married to Nancy Payne and had F.L. Edney, Sarah Edney and Milton Edney. The 1840 Dyer Co. Census shows A.A. Edney 30-40, and wife 20-30.In the 1850 Dyer Co. Census, Nancy is listed as a Widow with children F.C., Sarah, and Milton.
The parents of A.A. were Alson (Allison) Edney b- abt 1764 Pasquotank Co., NC d-October 4, 1816 Williamson Co., TN, and Polly Dunham d- January 1824 Williamson Co..
Alson (Allison) is believed to be the son of Samuel Edney born abt. 1725 Pasquotank Co., NC. From available documents, his death seems to have been abt. 1771, with his Estate Sale in 1774.His wife was Mary Kelley. Some researchers believe Alson was the son of Samuel's brother, Newton Rensher Edney.I tend to agree with Major Limon E. Fortner, dec'd, who found many deeds in Camden Co., NC which were between Newton Rensher Edney and people who appear to be his children. All of Samuel and Mary Kelley Edney's children seem to have sold their NC land and moved westward-from Henderson Co., NC to Davidson, Dyer, and Williamson Co., TN.
The parents of Samuel were Robert Edney who died in December of 1757, will probated in 1758, and his wife Ann Rensher//Wrensher/Renshaw.The family name in MD is Renshaw. You will find various birth dates for Robert Edney including the one you found in the LDS files, but the truth to it all is no records have been found on Robert and Ann Rensher Edney prior to 1724. There is no evidence of any other Edney in this country prior to 1724.One of our family researchers mis-read a page from John Camden Hotten's book about people from Barbados who came to this country. He thought a census record from Barbados was part of a list of people who migrated on to America and started the notion that a Peter Edney was in this country in 1679.Instead, he owned land in Barbados in 1679.I do believe our Robert probably comes from this Peter Edney, but can't prove it yet.
Sorry, I got carried away.I know this is more than you asked for.Hope it helps.
