I have attempted to locate information about some of my ancestors, Nathaniel Edsall and his wife Millicent.(I assume this Nathaniel is NOT the son of Richard Edsall and Jemima Seeley who was born 1792 in Vernon, NJ.)
The information I have about Nathaniel is that he was born about 1775 (where?), and died 20 April 1832 in Darke Co. Ohio.Millicent was also born about 1775, and died in 1848 in Darke Co., Ohio.
1800, PA, Luzerne Co.Nathaniel and his wife, both under 26, with 1 son under 10, and 2 daughters under 10, with another female over 45.
1810, PA, Luzerne Co.They were both between 26 and 45, with 3 sons under 10, 1 son 10-15, 2 daughters under 10, and 2 females over 45.
1820, OHIO, Darke Co.They were both over 45, with 1 son 16-26, 1 son 16-18, 1 son 10-16, 1 daughter 26-45, and 1 daughter under 10.
1830, OHIO, Darke Co.They were both 50-60, with 1 son 5-10, 1 son 20-30, 1 daughter 10-15, and 1 female 80-90.
Heverly states in PIONEER AND PATRIOT FAMILIES OF BRADFORD CO. PA, on page 296:"Nathaniel and Peter Edsall came from New Jersey, 1795, locating on Towanda creek in Monroe, being the first settlers above Samuel Cranmer.Nathaniel remained a score of years, then removed to other parts.Peter, who had married Jane Miller, sister of Mrs. Samuel Cranmer, finally deserted his family and went to Canada.Mrs. Jane Edsall, born November 25, 1770, died in Monroe, January 1, 1839.She left a son, John, and daughters, Mary, who married Libeus Marcy, and Jane married Jeremiah Blackman."
My comments:Nathaniel went "to other parts."OHIO.Is it possible that Nathaniel and Peter were brothers?A Peter Edsall died in Darke Co., Ohio about 1823.His estate was administered by Catharine Edsall. Is this Peter a brother of Nathaniel???
From the census records, I conclude that there were 9 children:
Juliann married John French on 30 Oct 1817 in Warren Co., Ohio.
Hilinda (or Melinda) married Richard Lawrence on 28 Jan 1819 in Warren Co., Ohio.
Lucy was born 28 Mar 1819 and married Henry Winebrenner 4 July 1837 in Darke Co., Ohio.
I have no information about the other children. However, there are census records in Ohio for:
Peter Edsall1820Mercer Co.age 45+ with wife and 5 children.
John Edsall1840Greene Co.age 30-40with wife and 7 children.
James Edsall1840Preble Co.
Samuel Edsall1840Preble Co.
I have not found a will for Nathaniel.Information about the appraisal of his estate indicates that John French and Richard Lawrence (both were sons-in-law) were administrators of his estate.(Is there a will???)The will for Millicent, dated 20 Feb 1846, gave her farm to Henry Winebrenner, her son-in-law, who was also the executor of her will.
If anyone can help me locate information about this Nathaniel, or lead me to another source for information, I would greatly apprecciate it.
