I know Ballymahon well,my Dad was born there in 1907. However he was a Casey.I know that there were Egans in Ballymahon because I have spent some time with LDS baptismal copies from Shrule and some Batch records of Civil births. I would suspect the your GGrandfather could have worked on maintaining the Grand or Royal canals with hie career background.I don't think there is any close relationship with any of our Egans. They seem to be Civil sevice primarily. ONe being POstmaster in little village of Begnagha and another in Dublin PO, in what capacity I not sure. One of Patrck's son's went to India in Civil service too but I haven't yet been able to trace his career.
Wish I could be of more help. I under stand we also had relatives in Everton, Wi about 1900 that I am Hoping to find.
Sounds like you have a good sound start on your line. What specific information were you trying to find?
Maureen Had a Barden cousin here today, who also had relatives buried in St Raymond's in the Bronx.
