Daniel Eggers who married Harriett Caroline Reeves is the son of James Eggers and Sarah Rash!
The 1860 Census of the household of Daniel and H. C. Eggers does NOT designate Sarah Eggers age 70 b. VA as STEPMOTHER as posted on some ancestry.com trees. This was a supposition on the part of those posting and not part of the census. ( It does not list the relationship to the head of the household for any members of this household.)
She is, in fact, Sarah (Rash) Eggers, wife of James Eggers.
James and Sarah Eggers entered into an agreement with Daniel on January 27, 1849 that he would "support maintain nourish and furnish them all things whatsoever for their comfort and keep them the said parties of the first part from want in every particular during their natural lives"
James Eggers died December 31, 1851, and his wife, Sarah, is living in Daniel Eggers household in 1860 per their agreement.
In Sarah's application for bounty land as widow of James Eggers, a statement is included from two other residents of Crawford Co. Missouri stating that the children's names, some of them, are: Daniel, Phebe, Jane & Avis...
In her declaration Sarah states that her name before marriage was Sarah Rash, that her said husband died at Crawford County Missouri on the 31st day of December A. D. 1851, and that she was married to the said James Eggers in Wayne County Indiana in December 1811.
Thank you to Dr. James Murphy and Marilyn Walker for furnishing the documents to clear up this question once and for all!
