"Mrs. Carol Ann Eggebraaten, 62, of Santa Barbara, Calif., and formerly of La Porte, died Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2007, in Santa Barbara after a battle with ovarian cancer.She was born Nov. 13, 1945, in La Porte to Walter and Leta Eichinger. She moved to Torrance, Calif., in 1965 and relocated to Santa Barbara in 1968.Mrs. Eggebraaten was employed by Raytheon Corp. in Santa Barbara. She earned her real estate broker’s license in 1973 and was affiliated with Presidio Realty her entire career, becoming co-owner with her husband in 1991. She attended St. John’s Lutheran Elementary and La Porte High School. She was a longtime member of Emanuel Lutheran Church, Santa Barbara, and later a member of Goleta (Calif.) Presbyterian Church. She was a quiet person, of great faith, respected and loved by all who knew her. Continually active in her son’s school and community, she gained the reputation of “the best mom and world’s greatest cook.”
Surviving are her husband of 16 years, Donovan “Don”; her stepmother, Thelma Eichinger of La Porte; one son, Steven Perez of San Jose, Calif.; one stepdaughter, Jill (Clifford) Delorey of Hilton Head, S.C.; five stepsons, Noel (Mary) of Hudson Wis.; Alan (Mary) of Forest City, Iowa; Dale of Saratoga Springs, N.Y.; Deon of Tomah, Wis.; and Reid (Jan) of San Jose, Calif.; 14 step-grandchildren; one step-great-granddaughter; and one sister, Avilla Eichinger of Goleta.
Preceding her in death were her parents and one sister, Joanne Blankenship.The funeral will be Sunday at 4 p.m. La Porte County time at Goleta Presbyterian Church, 6067 Sherrill Way. Friends may call Saturday at Welch-Ryce-Haider Funeral Chapel, 450 Ward Dr., Santa Barbara, from 11 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. La Porte County time. A family graveside service will be Monday at 1 p.m. La Porte County time at Santa Barbara Cemetery.Memorial contributions may be made to Cancer Research Institute, Ovarian Fund, 55 Broadway, Suite 1802, New York, NY 10006."
