Am so sorry to have been out of touch for so long--LIFE kind of made an avalanche on top of me--and I have lost your e-mail address, too!But I am back onto computer now and am feeling much better.I have not given up on this project--just wanted to reassure you of that!I just recently found a biographical sketch that Mrs. J.E. Gifford had written of her own family and in it she says that her daughter Odessa had attended theCarnegie Library School of Atlanta, Georgia and was employed as an Assistant Librarian at Georgia Tech about 1933!!!So, that makes all this even more interesting--Odessa was a real librarian!
I found this site on internet where the Army maintains a biography on famous generals of all the wars, etc. and they have listed in their bibliography that magazine article that Odessa mentioned in her application to DAR.It has "Major General Samuel Elbert of Georgia" Historical Magazine 2nd Ser., 3 January 1868 pp. 34-37.They also have another one listed by Charles Colcock Jones, "The Life and Services of Honorable Maj. Gen. Samuel Elbert of Georgia." Cambridge Mass. Riverside Press 1887.Wouldn't it be great if we could somehow find a way to see copies of these??I know they won't have any Celia Elbert mentioned, but it would help eliminate all the sources that she listed as her proof of lineage! http://www.army.mil/cmh-pg/reference/revbib/go.htmhttp://www.army.mil/cmh-pg/reference/revbib/go.htm is the address where I found this.I hope to get more back on track very soon now and please do send me your new email address--I had tried all kinds of combinations of things I thought it might be!I did not mean to lose touch with you at all.(My treatise is now about 50 pages long on proof that Celia never existed at all!) I hope to finish it very soon now and want to send you a copy after all you've done!from Jan
