???I have found my Elben ancestor's name spelled all 3 different ways. . William Turpin Elben was born in Salem Co. NJ, the son of William Elben,(born in MD) and Mary Ann Turpin b. in Alloways, Salem co., NJ. Wm. Turpin Elben moved to the Eastern shore of MD married Georgeanna Mann, and operated a Mill in the Chapel Dist. of Talbot Co. He fought in the civil war. He and Georgeanna both died in Balt., MD.(Georgeanna's obit spells it Elbon) Wm. Turpin Elben's sister, Anna Louisa Elben married Thomas Paley Stuard from Penn. They and her widowed mother, Mary Ann Turpin Elben were living in NY city at the 1880 census.I have found a William Elbon and Reubon Elbon listed on the Kent County , MD. Muster rolls for the Continental army in 1781. I just this week received a copy of a William Elben's will dated 1803 from the Salem Co., NJ archives. It names his pregnant wife as Rebecca and mentions sons but no names. In the will, it is spelled both Elben and Elbin. Do you thinkall of these Elbon, Elben, Elbins from NJ, MD and PA somehow link up????? I am very much interested in anything you might have found.
