The 1850 census for Sardinia, Erie Co., NY lists the following members in Holden Eldred's household:
Holden Eldridge, age 52, farmer born in RI Polly Eldridge, age 38, place of birth illegible Maryette Eldridge, age 9 John, age 7 Lysander, age 1
The three children were born in the same place as Polly, probably in NY.I thought Lysander was the same person as James Lysander, although the year of birth (1849) is inconsistent with the year of birth you have for James Lysander.
The following query was placed in the Boston Transcript on 18 Aug 1930: "Holden Eldred, born May 20, 1798, in Rhode Island, died Oct 29, 1851 at Sardinia, married first Little, married second Mary Casey, born Aug 21, 1811, died June 12, 1883 at Colden, NY.Children: Maryette, born Sep 23, 1841; John, March 3, 1844; William Henry, 1845; Lysander, 1849."The date of birth for Holden and William Henry came from the inscriptions on their graves, but I do not know where the person who placed the query got the birth dates for Mary Casey, Maryette, or John.
Polly must be the same person as Mary Casey, and is probably the mother of all the children listed in the household. Both William Henry and Holden, are buried in Sardinia. The record for William Henry states that he is the son of Holden and Mary Eldred, and that he died 24 May 1847, age 2yrs., 2 mos.Holden died on 20 Oct 1851, a year after the census.
I suspect that Holden is descended from John Eldred (son of Samuel) and Margaret Holden, although I have been unable to make that connection.John and Margaret had two gg grandsons named Holden who were born around the same time as Holden of Sardinia, NY; one resided in Milford, Otsego Co., NY (in 1850) and the other resided in Granville, MA.
