Alois A Ella, 79, a Slayton resident for over 50 years, died abruptly at 4 pm on April 29.Had Mr. Ella lived four more days he would have realized his 80th birthday.
"Louie" Ella, as he was known in this area, died of a coronary occlusion after an illness of 2 years.He succumbed finally to a heart ailment from which he had suffered for over a year and a half.Alois A Ella was born on May 3, 1872, at Charlottendorf, Austria.He lived there until 1891, at which time he moved to Fulda, MN.He moved to Slayton on July 16, 1902, and has lived here ever since.Mr. Ella worked on farms near Fulda and purchased the P.J. Nelson harness business in Slayton in 1902.On May 12, 1903, he was joined in holy wedlock to Eda E Ramert of Fulda.To this union were born five children, one of which preceded Mr. Ella in death.Mrs. A. L. Larson (Leona) is now living in Graceville, MN; Henry Ella of Slayton; Vincent Ella of Des Moines, IA; Mrs. C.T. Heitschel (Anita) of North Chicago, IL; and Bernard, deceased.He is also survived by his wife, 10 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.Bernard Ella died during WWII while serving in the Pacific with the Marine Corp.
Funeral services were held for the deceased on May 2 at 9:30 am from St. Ann's Catholic Church in Slayton, with Rev. Fr. John Mich, officiating.Jerry Ella, a grandson, was serving the funeral Mass.Pallbearers include Clarence Schrantz, Norman Knutson, Gus Gits, G.K. Lowe, Paul Ruane, and Bill Donovan.Honorary pallbearers were D.F. McCarville, John Moran, Nick Miller, John Price, Fred West, George Nelson, J.D. Lowe, Tena Nyssen, Joe Gustaf, Paul Shirley, John Galles, and George Gallus Sr.
