Hi, I'm inquiring about the Ellerby family line. My full name is William Thorpe Ellerby Jr. My father is William Thorp Ellerby. I spell my middle name after Jim Thorpe the famous Indian. My grandfather on my dad's side was Sidneyand my grandmother was Catherine. Everyone on my mother's side is German. All I know about the Ellerby family name is what I learned in Australia when I was finally able to locate a book which had the Ellerby name in it. The first known use of Ellerby was 1697 by a family that lived by an Elder tree in Sussex England and the first offical use was 1701 in England. One story I have from my mother on the family tree is that we got started by an member who left the indian reservation and used the name from an English guard there to leave and work in New York on the skyscrapers. On my dad's side we are of Blackfoot Indian descent. What do you know of the Ellerbys?
