Hi Sue, I am not familiar with any Ellery's who left New York for Michigan.I only see two Ellerys, listed on Harrison Ellery's pedigree, that might have gone up there:
Elizabeth F. Ellery (b. Jan 15 1840), who married a William Kent of Michigan City (not sure if that's in Michigan!?) She was the daughter of Frank Ellery (b. July 23, 1794) a commodore in the US Navy who fought in the battle of Lake Champlain, 1812!FrankmarriedElizabeth F. (same name) the daughter of Edward Martin on Aug 4, 1835.It says that she (mother) was a Newport belle.
The other is Eugene Ellery (b.Sept 18, 1841) who was a prominant businessman in Chicago. He was the son of Christopher Ellery (Actually Frank Ellery's brother!) (b. July 31, 1803) a shipmaster in the merchant service. Who, on Feb 22, 1834 married Hannah b.Jan 4, 1815 daughter of Zenas Kinsey of Alexandria VA.It says that she was a lady of elegant presence.
