Elaine Ione (Mrs. Kenneth L.) Nicholes Elaine Nicholes died Sunday evening in Tacoma. She was 90 years old. She was born on April 18, 1917, in Parshall, N.D., and was the third child and only daughter of Albert and Anne Ellingson. The family moved to the Tacoma area in 1923 and lived in Parkland where Elaine attended the Parkland School. She graduated from Lincoln High School in 1935. Following school, she worked as a secretary in various companies including Love Electric in Tacoma and the Beaverton School District in Beaverton, Ore. Elaine married Herbert (Burt) Streng in 1939. They lived in Parkland where their sons Paul and Byron were born. Their marriage ended in the early 1950s. She subsequently met and was married to Kenneth L. Nicholes in 1956 and a third son, David, was born. The Nicholes continued to live in Parkland, where Elaine was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, until 1965 when they moved to Oregon. They left Oregon 1972 and moved to Mount Vernon, Washington, where they resided until returning to Fircrest in 1987. She lived there until her death. While in Mount Vernon, Elaine became interested in weaving and belonged to a weavers guild in that area. She continued to enjoy weaving for many years. Elaine was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth, her parents and her brothers Arnold (Arne) and Alton (Al) Ellingson. She is survived by her sons Paul of Tacoma, Byron of Marysville and David of Bothell; three grandchildren, Aaron of Seattle, Erica of Renton, and Michael of Seattle and two brothers, Norbert (Vivian) Ellingson and Byron (Inez) Ellingson, both of Tacoma. Services are being arranged by Dryer Mortuary in Parkland. Her funeral is scheduled for noon, Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery at 13600 At Ave. East, Spanaway. A reception will be held at the church, located at 121st Street South and Park Avenue South, near Pacific Lutheran University. Viewing will be Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Dryer Mortuary at 134th Street South and Pacific Avenue.
