I have some Elrod family history in Tennessee. It is in the Cookville area. Among the ancestors are four William Elrods (presumably) From my grandfather's account, his own grandfather was known as "Black Bill" Elrod I. One of his sons was William Junior, known as "Black Bill" II, To him there was born another son named Bill (Wm?)who was my great-grandfather's brother. I don't know the vital statistics of any of these except that it was Black Bill I who migrated to the Cookville area from east of the Allegheny's in about 1800. My grandfather (whose name was James Isaac Elrod) also had a brother by the name of William Crittendon Elrod born April 9, 1869 who would have been born in the Cookville, TN area. My grandfather's family moved west in about 1873 to the Norwood, MO area. Don't know if any of these Williams gives you a connection to the one you are looking for, but maybe. I wish I had seen your post sooner but I have just begun to look into this history in the past few weeks. Hope it is not too late.
