Hilary McBride has been helping me research my Elsworth family in Dorset. This is what she has found so far. And also the girls were baptised in Piddletrenthide. I would like to find out Lucy Elsworth's maiden name if possible. My great-grandmother is Julia Elsworth. Thank you for any help.
In 1881, Frederick Elsworth, Lucy and Celia were living in West Street, Winterborne Stickland. Next door was the church curate and, as we already know, Julia was working in the Rector's house. I think it is safe to assume the other sisters were living close by too. Frederick is stated as having been born in 1821, Woolland, Dorset. Lucy was born in 1829 in Liphook, Hampshire. (Information from www.familysearch.com) In 1891, the three of them had moved to 17, Argyle Road, Radipole, Dorset. Despite being 70 years old, Frederick was still working as a gardener. Celia was working as a dressmaker. (Information from www.ancestry.co.uk) In 1776, a relative called Frederick Elsworth (possibly Julia's grandfather) married Betty Belbin on 14th January.
Her parents were called Frederick and Lucy... Frederick was a gardener. Originally the name was spelt ELLSWORTH and seems to have changed to ELSWORTH in 1866. As far as I can tell, there were 4 daughters in the family and all were born in Piddletrenthide. The dates of baptisms are as follows... December 21st 1862Florence March 31st 1864Kate September 24th 1865Julia Louisa December 30th 1866Cela Mary
