I was tryingto find the Hawaii connection... I know for a fact that the name was Emmanuelli. My grandfather was born with it. His father changed it after his birth when he (his father- my gr.grandfather) came to the us from Corsica/puerto rico.
He was Paul (paulo...?) no first name yet...but while in route to the u.s.a via ship...encountered problems with the ships engines and they were forced to make an unscheduled (maybe even undocumented) stop in Hawaii.
There he stayed taking only time to father his last child from this marriage...4daughters, and Frederick my g/father...and left them all behind in Hawaii. My grandmother ( margerita?)was remarried shortly after that which is why no traces of emmanuelli could be found.
he came to the mainland..and I have no idea after that...I would really like to know...My aunt that was still living in Hawaii married a man by the last name of Piva...she just passed but he knows the whole story...another of his sisters Betty Emmanuelli Cooper is still living in Sacramento CA...and is in her late 90's .
The kids that came to the u.s. had their name changed automatically because of their father making a new start for himself.
My grandfather was born in Hilo Ha.1906 had at least 5 children. 1 illegitimate child as he first got to California...where he always stayed..her name is/was Barbara. Then with M. Louise Medlin of KY ( census has them all mixed up from 1930...) who gave him 2 sons Fred jr, and Ronald Joseph Emanuel born in Santa Barbara she dies at 33 in 1947. He marries again and has 3 daughters. 2 living still...in their 50's Patricia Chris, Suzy Mumford . and Holly (d).
16 grandchildren13 g/grandchildren 8 Emanuel males to carry the name...(that I have...
So...what do you think....pretty close huh? It has been a weirdly informative journey...and I do look forward to hearing from you to see if you have info to add...
