Dallas Morning News Dallas, Texas May 26, 1967 Tyler, Texas: Miss BETTY JO EMBERLING/EMBERLIN, 37 year old State Child Welfare Department supervisor in New Orleans, Louisiana, was found shot to death in her parked automobile in Overton Thursday, justice of peace P. C. PINKERTON of Tyler returned an inquest verdict of death from a self-inflicted wound. Miss Emberling, a former Dallas resident, died from a bullet wound in the right temple, Pinkerton said. A 22 caliber pistol was found nearby. Friends of the woman said she had been despondent about the health of her mother, who resides in an Overton rest home. An expired Texas driver’s license showed the woman’s address as Dallas. A later license gave a New Orleans address. A native of Odessa, Miss Emberling had lived in the New London area for 33 years.
