I am a descendant of James M. and Susannah Emerson of Mecklenburgh Co.,NC.We have corresponded before. We don't know where James M. was in the 1810 census but I think he may have gone to Alabama at some time and returned to Meck. His son, John Savage Emerson married and moved to Alabama. There was in Tuscaloosa Co.. another James Emerson who was 70 in the 1850 census of Tuscaloosa Co., AL. He was born in N.C. and was thought to be the son of John of Warren Co., N.C.JAMES must have married in N. C. (possibly to Margaret Moore or Amy Bobbit ).He had a grown son named William Tabb Emerson.. and I suspect was the son of John of Warren Co.
There was a Reuben Loggins in Tuscaloosa who married a Susannah Emerson.John Savage Emerson (by his second wife) had a son named Reuben Loggins Emerson. The town of Emerson, Arkansas was named for him.He stated in his biography that his father was "early taken to Alabama".John's brother, David Mc. Emerson was a Methodist minister and outlived the others. In the 1880 census of Columbia Co., AR, he listed both of his parents (James M. And Susannah) as born in Virginia.
It is possible that James M. was the son of John of Warren Co. but there are holes in every theory.I have lots more information but it is too much for this forum.
