ZIPPORA SHIMEL, youngest daughter of MR. and MRS. PHILIP SHIMEL, was born February l6, l855, at Kyoer, Clearfield County, Pennsylvania. She resided near the place of her birth for a number of years and later came to Tama County, Iowa. While there she was united in marriage to CHARLES W. REED in October, l875. They lived on a farm in the immediate neighborhood for l7 years, moving from there to Lamoni, Iowa, in l892. About 4 years ago, they moved to Davis City, Iowa, where she has since resided, and in which place MR. REED has engaged in the mercantile business.
There were born to this union, five children; four daughters and one son, all of whom are living; namely, MRS. BLANCHE E. DRISKILL, of Davis City, Iowa; MRS. STELLA CONOVER, of Monte Vista, Colorado; MRS. IRENE EMSLIE, of Seattle, Washington; EARL REED, of Lamoni, Iowa; and MRS. IVA WILSON, of Davis City, Iowa. In addition to these children, she leaves to mourn her departure one great grandson and thirteen grandchildren.
MRS. REED was baptized into the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, July 7, l882, by Elder J.S. Roth, a friend of the family, having made his home at times with her parents. During the 43 years which have elapsed since the day of her baptism, she has remained true to her covenant.
>From early childhood, she has been quite frail, and at times has been a great sufferer. After an illness of about one year, she passed from this life, Monday evening, February l6, being exactly 70 years of age.
Funeral services were held at the Latter Day Saints Church, Davis City, Iowa, on Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock, Elder J.D. Stead in charge, sermon by W.E. Prall. Interment in Rose Hill Cemetery.
