Having never met a Caucasian Eng outside my family in my entire life, I must at lease try this and see what comes up.
My grandfather, Ross Dean Eng, was born in Vienna, SD in 1920 to Idella Ross and Julius Clifton Eng. There were several other children too- Jetta, Beryle, Anita, Merris, Daniel and Noel.
I believe the family migrated into the Dakotas from Canada at some point and changed their name to Eng to accomodate a German community with whom they lived. I've seen a tin-type photo of the carriage with Eng Livery Service on the side.
I think the Eng family was originally Scandinavian, but I'm really not sure. I've heard rumors that the family name was originally Bjornstengensen, or Bjornstengen,I heard Englund too.
I'm so darned American now I have no idea where my family comes from. I'd love to know more about my ancestry.
Anyway, if this strikes a familiar note with anyone reading here, please let me know. Thanks.
