Dear Patti,
This is in regards to your post from 2001.I don’t know if you’re still into genealogy, but I am interested in the Engelsman and Laansma lines. This is what I have, so far:
Hindrik Jans Engelsman (~1670) was the father of Remmelt Hendriks Engelsman (~1701 Wildervank, Groningen, Nederland) who was the father of Roelf Remmelts Engelsman (1741-1806 Veendam, Groningen, Nederland).
Jacob Jens Seven (~1655) was the father of Jan Jacobs Seven (~1677) who was the father of Jacob Jens Seven (~1699) who was the father of Diewertie Jacobs Seven (1717) who was the mother of Roelf Remmelts Engelsman (1741-1806).
Roelf Remmelts Engelsman (1741-1806) was the father of Harm Roelfs Engelsman (1786-1874) who was the father of Roelf Harms Engelsman (1808) who was the father of Heere Roelfs Engelsman (1836-1933) who was the father of Grietje or Gertje or Grace Englesman (1875-1957 Gasselternijveen, Gasselte, Drenthe Nederland).
Heere Roelfs Engelsman (1836-1933) was also the brother of Sikke Roelf Engelsman (1839), so Sikke Roelf Engelsman was the uncle of Grietje Englesman, and likely related to you.
Grietje Engelsman arrived on Ellis Island in New York on 02 Aug 1904.Three days later, on 05 Aug 1904, Grietje Englesman married Johannes Van Der Kam and in the years to follow, they raised four children in Grand Rapids, Michigan:Richard H VanderKam (1906 - 1991); Harold H VanderKam (1907 - 1995); Hilda VanderKam (Olthoff) (1910 - 1976); and Ralph J. VanderKam (1915 – 1990).
Johannes Van Der Kam arrived on Ellis Island before Greitje, on 31 Mar 1904.On the Ship’s manifest, he said that he was going to stay with his brother-in-law, D. Laansma who lived at 101 Jennette Street, Grand Rapids, Michigan.
In the 1910 US Census, there was a Laansma family living in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The members of this family were:Douwa or Douwe R Laansma (1871); Bessie Laansma (1877); John Laansma (1899); Johannes Laansma (1902); Florence Laansma (1904); Ida Laansma (1906); George Laansma (1908); and Florence Browder (1854).I don’t know if they lived on Jennette Street.
Do you know this Laansma family?I wonder if Johannes Van Der Kam was the brother of Bessie Laansma.Johannes was an orphan and I have no information about his parents.
Please let me know if you have any information about the Laansma family from Jennette Street.
