Those of you searching your roots, heads up! The ethnic origins of ENOS can have several sources. The northern European route (France, (Belguim, Ireland, England to USA) is likely to include Henault, Hennot, Enno, Eno, Enos, Enis, Enas, Enix, Innes, Ennes, Eanes, Eanos, Eanis, and perhaps a dozen I have forgotten but have encountered in my searches. The Portuguese roots were Ignacio, but I have never heard how that name became Enos. There appears to be no connection between those two sources. A third source I have heard of seems to be French Canadian but a small one. Searchers looking for their Enos family roots should realize those are two very different paths to search, two very different families and not get off on the wrong track. If you are uncertain, look at family history names in your family, are they Spanish or Anglo groups of names? That may be a clue.
