Is the John that you mention to be Abrams father John Epler (1743 - 1782) who married Mary Phiel in 1768? That John was commissioned second lieutenant in the Berk's Co militia in 1777. I believe that John must be the son of Adam Elper who, together with his brother Peter, emigrated from Germany to America in 1734. They gave property to a the Reform Church in Reading, Berks Co, Pa and a chrch there is named the Epler Church. I believe that I am descended from the other brother Peter but can not yet find a definitive connection. I would be interested in corresponding if you have information regarding the early Eplers of Berks, Northumberland or Lancaster Co.
