Hi Eleanor,
though I do have ERBES from the 19th century, I'm afraid I couldn't find a trace of a connection to your ERBES.
The reason is that Gensingen and Bubenheim, though very close to the area where my ERBES lived (from an American point of view), is too far to establish a possible link between these families.
I know that when you have a look at that area on a map, it looks so close and one might think there could be a connection. However, the name ERBES is too common and I made the experience that a small distance of only 10, 20 or 50 miles is good reason to be sure you are dealing with two complete different branches of a family name.
I checked the name LÜCKER, as well, but again I'm sorry I couldn't find anything.
A lot of our (my) Hessian ancestors left for the States, maybe you want to post a message at http://www.ahnenforum.com/http://www.ahnenforum.com/We established that board for Hessian ancestry, and there's some people there not browsing these boards here.Maybe one of them has a hint for you, could be worth a try, since ERBES is a well known name at the Ahnenforum board. There are also some American descendants from Hesse registered at the board, maybe they know more about ERBES in the States.
Mid of the 19th century, the dates you mentioned, are quite difficult to deal with.On the one hand, church records ended at that time.On the other hand, so many Europeans left on a ship heading for the US and a lot of data got lost or mixed up during immigration.
Thanks for your reply and your -- perfect -- shot at German,
Ralf
